Joanna Ford – BSc Kinesiology, CSEP-CEP
I began working part-time as a personal trainer in 2006 while I was earning my Kinesiology degree at the University of Calgary. I transitioned to full-time personal training once I graduated in 2008 and I’ve been working in the fitness and health industry ever since.
I am passionate about physical activity and the need to ensure that we work on both our cardiovascular and our musculoskeletal fitness. Cardiovascular fitness is essential for preventing chronic disease, and ensuring we are fit enough to perform tasks like hiking or playing sports without becoming exhausted. Musculoskeletal fitness is equally important because it enables us to prevent and recover quickly from joint injuries, improves our bone density, and allows us to move our body throughout all ranges of motion. Physical activity in general inspires self-confidence, reduces stress and enables us to better tackle life’s challenges.
In my spare time I like to run/hike/scramble up and down mountains. I am an avid long-distance trail runner, competing in distances from 50-350km over mountainous terrain. I enjoy pushing my perceived limits to see what lies beyond them, and I aim to inspire others to challenge their own barriers. If you combine consistent, progressive training with rest, recovery and proper nutrition the human body is an amazing, adaptable machine. You may be surprised at where it can take you!
Russel Galvizo – Diploma of Kinesiology, Certified Personal Trainer (ACE)
I became certified as a personal trainer right after I graduated with my Diploma of Kinesiology, and I’ve been working in the fitness industry ever since. I have found my passion in this line of work!
I am passionate about helping people to achieve their fitness goals. My focus is on creating a comfortable environment, educating and sharing the importance of fitness and healthy lifestyles. I love working with all age demographics but I have been extra successful in training clients 50+.
I just love the eagerness to learn, and to be strong and work on specific goals. I find great joy and accomplishment in helping clients get strong , balanced and mobile.
I love teaching HIIT, strength and athletic workout. but my personal favourite is boxing! I’ve found that teaching boxing and including it in training programs gives clients mental and stress therapy, as well as confidence and enjoyment by doing something that is different.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, hiking, traveling and reading.
Fitness philosophy: Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
Jason Wong – BKin. CSEP-CPT
I’ve been with LIV UnLtd since December 2010, and previously with the YMCA and World Health. I’ve worked with a variety of clients and gained an appreciation for being a flexible trainer in order to help clients achieve their goals. I grew up playing soccer, but also played football, basketball and track and field. I didn’t start weight training until I was finished High School and now it has become part of my routine. Health and fitness has been a part of my life and I would like to make it the same for everyone that I work with.
